The EU has agreed to permit the raising of the orange juice content in Italian soft drinks from 12 % to 20 %. This decision regards all beverages sold as „orange juice“ or products with denominations that reference oranges.
According to Roberto Moncalvo, Director of the Italian farmers group Coldiretti, leading producers have already started adapting the changes to be implemented by 06-03-2018. Another step towards more transparency is to make mandatory labelling regarding the origin of the fruit used in the drinks in order to prevent the use of concentrated juices imported from distant countries, but marketed as “Made in Italy”, Moncalvo said.
