Fruit Innovation, the international exhibition for the fruit and vegetable supply chain whose second edition will be held in Milan from May 4th to 6th 2016, will be in Lima in late August for Expoalimentaria, the leading Latin American agro-food fair taking place in the Peruvian capital from August 26th to 28th. The presence of Fruit Innovation with a stand in the ICE area of Expoalimentaria testifies to the exhibition organizers’ attention to a crucial region for the world’s fruit and vegetable production. It is also the first of a packed calendar of actions aimed at internationalizing the Milan exhibition which, at its debut last May registered the participation of 230 international exhibitors, high-profile professional visitors and launched Milan as a strategic location for the fruit and vegetable business.
At the Fruit Innovation stand Expoalimentaria visitors will find all the information they need about the 2016 edition and will learn more about the opportunities offered by the Milan fair in terms of trade and technological interchange. Fruit Innovation will be officially presented to Expoalimentaria’s professional public during an event organized by ICE – the Italian agency for foreign trade. In addition, during their stay in Lima Fruit Innovation representatives will take the chance to meet the representatives of leading Peruvian fruit and vegetable companies, trade associations and government agencies dealing with fruit and vegetable trade.
In 2014 Peru reported a 48 % growth in fruit exports, favoured by an exceptional climate increasing yearly harvests, improving the productivity of crops and the quality of end products. The country is world leader in exports of asparagus, in third place for mango, in fourth place for avocado and in fifth place for table grapes. Peru has also been enjoying remarkable growth in the segment of small fruits: in 2014 exports of blueberries hiked by 84 % in volumes, exceeding two million tons for a total value of over $ 22 million.
The most recent data disclosed by Adex – the Association of Peruvian exporters and organizers of Expoalimentaria – for 2015 confirms an impressive growth in exports of some of the key products in Peru’s fruit and vegetable industry:
+44 % for blueberries and +6.7 % for asparagus in the first quarter of this year. Exports of organic products are also growing; Peru is in fact the world’s largest exporter of organic bananas.
