Package Provides More Functionality For Consumers; Increases Brand Space For Customers

Tetra Pak, the world leader in food processing and packaging solutions, today announces its latest innovation in carton packaging. The Tetra Brik® Aseptic 1000 Mid LightCap 24 builds on the success of Tetra Pak’s leading Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Base perforation carton packaging. It features Tetra Pak’s lowest cost screw cap which offers consumers increased functionality while giving customers increased space for branding and product promotion.

Meeting changing consumer needs

The Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Mid LightCap 24 has several features which provide consumers with confidence in the product’s safety and freshness while also increasing its usability. The package has a two-step opening with barrier protection for a wide range of products including oxygen sensitive drinks such as value added milk, juices and nectars, still drinks and wine, ensuring that the product is safe, secure and kept fresh for longer. In addition, the new carton package features a pull ring, which gives even more security for consumers as it clearly demonstrates whether the carton has been previously opened.

The LightCap 24 uses a combination of pre-laminated hole (PLH) and Direct Injection Moulding Concept (DIMC) technologies, offering customers the widest possible opening for enhanced pouring functionality while using the minimal amount of raw materials; ensuring it is not only practical for consumers but cost-effective for customers too.

Bringing efficiency and flexibility to customers

The new carton package meets the benchmark for pallet efficiency, set by the Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Base perforation, with six layers stacked on pallet. This enables customers to distribute the same number of litres per pallet while adding greater functionality for the consumer through the addition of the new closure.

“We are very pleased with the better pallet utilisation achieved with Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Mid LightCap 24. It enables more efficient distribution as the package takes up less space for transportation. This has allowed us to achieve six layers on a pallet rather than five achieved with our previous package. We are now able to use vertical space more efficiently in our warehouse while also reducing waste due to less damage,” said Fernando Koch, UHT Plant Manager, at SOPROLE a dairy producer in the Fonterra Group. “In addition, the Tetra Pak A3/Flex line has been running seamlessly, and we are very pleased with the equipment’s performance.”

The Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Mid LightCap 24 runs on the Tetra Pak A/3Flex 0400V filling machine. This allows customers to increase the number of packages produced per hour to 8,000 packages from 6,000 Tetra Brik Aseptic 1000 Base packages with perforation on the TBA/8 filling machine.

“In an increasingly competitive market, our customers value having the choice and the flexibility to meet the changing demands of consumers in different markets while keeping efficiency up and costs down,” said Seda Solmaz, Product Manager Tetra Brik Aseptic Baseline and Midline.

The Tetra Brik Aseptic Mid LightCap 24 is scheduled for global release from March 2013.
